BADAGRY, LAGOS — The Badagry Local Government administration has presented official vehicles to members of its Legislative Council as part of activities marking the first anniversary of the administration led by Executive Chairman Babatunde Adande Hunpe.
According to the account provided by the council, the presentation took place on Wednesday during a special interdenominational prayer session at the local government secretariat.
Hunpe said the vehicles were provided as working tools to improve the mobility of councillors and enable them to engage more effectively with residents in their respective wards.
He said the vehicles would also assist councillors in monitoring projects and carrying out their legislative and oversight responsibilities.
The chairman urged the beneficiaries to use the vehicles responsibly, stressing that they should be regarded as instruments of public service rather than symbols of privilege.
Hunpe said effective grassroots representation requires elected officials to remain accessible to their constituents and responsive to community needs.
One year of the administration
Reflecting on his administration's first year in office, Hunpe expressed gratitude for what he described as the support received from residents, political stakeholders, traditional and religious leaders, council workers and the Lagos State Government.
He reaffirmed his administration's commitment to its Greater Badagry Rising Agenda, with priorities including infrastructure, education, healthcare, economic empowerment and security.
The administration has previously identified the Greater Badagry Rising Agenda as its development framework for improving governance and service delivery across the local government's ten wards.
Earlier in 2026, the council also inaugurated its executive cabinet, with Hunpe charging members of the team to deliver results across Badagry.
The local government has subsequently publicised other initiatives, including support for persons with disabilities and health-related assistance for residents through the Ilera Eko health insurance scheme.
Questions over public resources
While the presentation of vehicles is being described by the administration as a measure intended to strengthen grassroots governance, the council has not, in the material reviewed for this report, publicly disclosed the total cost of the vehicles, their procurement source, the number of vehicles acquired or the procurement process used.
Those details would provide residents with important information for assessing the expenditure and its value to the local government.
Badagry Local Government's official website identifies Babatunde Adande Hunpe as the serving Executive Chairman.
Hunpe was elected chairman of Badagry Local Government in the July 2025 Lagos State local government elections, according to reports on the election results.
As the administration enters its second year, attention will increasingly focus on how its stated development priorities translate into measurable improvements in infrastructure, healthcare, education, economic opportunities and other services across Badagry's communities.
The vehicle presentation therefore forms part of a broader assessment of the administration's first year in office, rather than by itself establishing the overall performance of the council.
