OTUKPO, BENUE STATE — A former councillor representing Awume-Icho Ward in Ohimini Local Government Area of Benue State, Daniel Ujah, has been remanded at the Otukpo Correctional Centre after being arraigned over allegations of assaulting a woman and attempting to kill her.

Ujah, 43, was brought before the Upper Area Court 2 in Otukpo by the Nigeria Police and charged with criminal trespass, intimidation, criminal force and assault, causing grievous hurt, and attempted culpable homicide.

The case followed a petition reportedly submitted by Rebecca Adole to the Area Commander’s Office of the Nigeria Police in Otukpo.

According to the First Information Report (FIR), marked CR33/2026, the alleged incident occurred on August 28, 2026, at Akwutulo, Awume, in Ohimini LGA.

The police report alleged that Adole was informed by her cousin, Isaac Iduh, that her mother, Amina Iduh, had been attacked after returning from the farm.

The FIR alleged that Ujah entered Amina's compound without permission, assaulted her several times and pushed her into a fire.

The police further alleged that the incident left Amina with injuries to her buttocks, while her clothes were reportedly burnt.

The report stated that Amina was subsequently taken to hospital by police officers in Onyagede, Ohimini LGA, where she was receiving treatment.

The police also alleged that Ujah threatened to kill Amina and claimed that nobody would be able to stop him from carrying out the threat.

However, the allegations have not been established as facts in court.
During proceedings on Wednesday, Ujah denied the allegations and pleaded not guilty to all the charges brought against him.

His lawyer, Rev. O. Simon, appearing on behalf of P.O. Ella, applied for bail.
The prosecution, led by Inspector Nancy Alechenu, opposed the bail application.

Following the arguments, Magistrate Hasia Garuba ordered that Ujah be remanded at the Otukpo Correctional Centre pending further proceedings.
The court fixed September 22, 2026, for further mention of the case.

Police allege that the incident happened on August 28 at Akwutulo, Awume, and that Amina Iduh sustained injuries after being allegedly pushed into a fire.

The police say the matter originated from a petition by Rebecca Adole and resulted in criminal charges against Ujah.

Ujah has denied the allegations and pleaded not guilty.
