A woman identified as Erdoo Nancy has been arrested by officers of the Nigeria Police Force, Aliade Division, after youths in the area allegedly apprehended her in connection with the killing of her co-wife’s daughter along the Makurdi Road, opposite YUA Guest House in Aliade, Gwer East Local Government Area of Benue State.
According to witnesses, the incident occurred along the Makurdi Road in Aliade. The suspect was reportedly upset because her co-wife was preparing to travel to Onitsha to meet their husband. Witnesses further alleged that Nancy claimed her husband had not been providing her with expected attention and support.
She allegedly believed that harming the child would prevent the co-wife’s trip. Youths in the area apprehended her and handed her over to the police at Aliade Division. The police have confirmed the arrest and stated that investigation is underway.
No official statement has been released yet on the exact circumstances, the age or identity of the deceased child, or the current medical or forensic status. Benue Info-pedia urges caution against speculation, as the matter remains under active police investigation.
Polygamous family disputes occasionally escalate into violence in parts of Nigeria, including Benue State. Similar isolated cases of intra-family harm have been reported nationally, often linked to jealousy, resource allocation, or neglect perceptions.
This incident highlights broader challenges around family stability, child protection, and access to mediation or counselling services in rural and semi-urban communities.
