The Catholic Diocese of Otukpo has announced the abduction of one of its seminarians, Mr. Kelvin Ochai, describing the incident as deeply distressing.

In a statement signed by the Diocesan Chancellor, Rev. Fr. Joseph Aboyi Itodo, the Diocese said the seminarian was kidnapped on Wednesday, July 29, 2026, at the Bishop's Residence in Asa III, Otukpo, Benue State.

According to the statement, the Bishop of the Diocese, Most Rev. Michael Ekwoyi Apochi, expressed deep sadness over the incident and appealed to members of the Catholic faithful and all people of goodwill to pray for the seminarian's quick and safe release.

The Diocese said it is intensifying efforts aimed at securing Mr. Ochai's freedom and also remembered others currently being held by kidnappers across the country in its prayers.

As of the time of publication, the Diocese did not disclose further details about the circumstances surrounding the abduction.
