Taraba State Governor, Agbu Kefas, on Monday commissioned the 5km Ibi–Nwunyo road, bringing relief to residents and boosting access to the popular Nwunyo Fishing Festival. He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to infrastructure and development.
There was excitement in Ibi Local Government Area of Taraba State as Governor Agbu Kefas, on Monday, April 27, 2026, commissioned the 5-kilometre Ibi–Nwunyo road.
The road, which leads directly to the Nwunyo Fishing Festival ground, is expected to ease movement and open up economic opportunities in the area.
Speaking at the event, Kefas said infrastructure development remains central to his administration’s agenda. He noted that the project would not only improve accessibility but also boost commerce and tourism.
The governor also disclosed that he recently engaged the President on the long-awaited Ibi Bridge project, assuring residents that work would resume soon.
Earlier, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Works and Infrastructure, Samuel Lauya, said accessing the festival ground had been a major challenge before now. He added that the new road would ease traffic, especially during festival periods.
According to him, the project, awarded in March 2026, cost over N3 billion and forms part of ongoing efforts to upgrade infrastructure across the state.
Managing Director of Mould Nigeria Limited, Engr Samuel Oyafemi, thanked the state government for the opportunity to execute the project.
Also speaking, Ibi LGA Chairman, Emmanuel Ubandoma, described the road as a major boost to economic growth and cultural promotion.
The event featured colourful cultural displays, adding glamour to the commissioning ceremony.
