Residents of Rukpokwu in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, have apprehended two women accused of attempting to kidnap a six-month-old baby. The infant was rescued unharmed after community members reportedly intercepted the suspects while they were allegedly trying to leave the area with the child.
Tension gripped the Rukpokwu community in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, after residents apprehended two women accused of attempting to abduct a six-month-old baby.
According to the child's mother, she had briefly left home to buy food, leaving the infant in the care of her two sons. While she was away, her eldest son reportedly informed her that two unfamiliar women had entered their room.
The mother said she initially believed the child was mistaken and did not immediately return home. However, she later decided to check on the situation and discovered that her six-month-old baby was missing.
She subsequently raised an alarm, prompting residents to begin searching for the child. During the search, a community member reportedly informed her that two women had been seen carrying a baby toward a motorcycle.
Residents quickly mobilised and intercepted the women before they could allegedly leave the area. The baby was recovered safely, while the two suspects were detained by members of the community.
The circumstances surrounding the incident remain unclear, and there has been no official statement from law enforcement authorities at the time of reporting.
