Two teenage girls have reportedly died after a hut was allegedly set on fire in Kaffe, Zaki-Biam, Ukum Local Government Area of Benue State, in the early hours of Monday. Police are said to have arrested a female suspect while investigations into the incident continue.
Two teenage girls reportedly lost their lives following a fire that engulfed a residential hut in Kaffe, Zaki-Biam, Ukum Local Government Area of Benue State, during the early hours of Monday.
According to accounts from residents, the incident allegedly followed a dispute involving the girls' father, identified as Aondoyima Ierkwagh, and a woman identified as Mbayegh.
Witnesses claimed that the suspect visited the man's residence on Sunday night but was asked to leave. She allegedly remained nearby, believing another woman was inside the compound.
Residents further alleged that a hut where the two girls were sleeping was later set on fire shortly after midnight.
One of the girls reportedly died at the scene, while the second victim later died after being taken to hospital.
The girls' mother was reportedly away in Taraba State for farming activities when the incident occurred.
Residents said the suspect was subsequently arrested by officers of the Nigeria Police Force and is undergoing interrogation.
As of publication, Benue Info-pedia has not independently verified all aspects of the eyewitness accounts. An official statement from the Benue State Police Command had not been obtained at the time of filing this report.
Investigations are expected to establish the exact circumstances surrounding the fire, the motive, and any criminal liability.
